Live Music Session #45 – Larkham & Hall + Canute’s Plastic Army

THE THURSDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB – A show which was originally supposed to happen back in May 2017 Finally arrives!

L&H and Canutes April 19 Tupp WEB

Originally this show, with this line up, was meant to happen back in May 2017, but due to illness Larkham & Hall had to pull out. Despite both acts playing here in the interim we always felt this was a line up worth returning to. So here it is!

LARKHAM & HALL – Alt-folk/alt-country duo writing artistic, attractive songs with a lyrical intensity rarely seen these days. Think Leonard Cohen with Marianne Faithful, at dawn after all night out at sea with a lot of tequila.
The Americana flavour comes from the influence of the great sixties folk artists and storytellers such as Bob Dylan, Tim Buckley, John Prine, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell.
Throw in quiet influences from a little punk and a little rock and you have the idea…Guns N Roses, Pink Floyd, Nick Cave, Patti Smith.
Lately World music influences have been creeping in via Elliot’s exploration into Flamenco and modern Spanish music from the likes of Joaquin Sabina.

CANUTE’S PLASTIC ARMY – Canute’s Plastic Army is an acoustic duo consisting of the vocals of Anish Noble-Harrison (previously of the well known Teddy White Band) and Neil Mercer on acoustic guitar and backing vocals (previously of Rumour Shed and the Dacoits). The band started as the solo project of Neil who started playing and writing on his own due to running out of band mates. In spring 2016 Anish and Neil played around with a few covers and found a shared love of dark, twisted songs by artists as disparate as Odetta, Cate Le Bon and Pulp. They also found that Anish’s soaring, passionate vocals and Neil’s intricate, dynamic acoustic guitar was a potent mix. They quickly started writing dark and twisted songs of their own. Their first EP, Building Walls, was released in summer 2017 on Secret Chord records. They have gone on to expand their sound, constantly writing new songs and sometimes using a loop pedal to layer their guitar and vocals and add dynamics and power. They are currently demoing tracks for their next EP or album.
